Pathway Vet Alliance, a leading national veterinary management group serving pets and their parents throughout the U.S., is scheduled to open Pet Specialists of Austin, a specialty and emergency hospital for pets, this January in Austin.
This will be Pathway’s first specialty and emergency veterinary hospital the company has built from the ground up. The 10,400 square-foot, state-of-the-art specialty, and the emergency hospital will be open 24-hours-a-day for emergencies and is located in between Central Austin and Hyde Park, just one block away from Pathway’s first veterinary hospital, Austin Vet Care at Central Park.
Upon opening, Pet Specialists of Austin will have board-certified specialists in surgery, cardiology, and oncology. Pet Specialists of Austin’s internal medicine service is scheduled to begin in the fall of 2021 and radiology, neurology, and critical care are all planned for the future, as well.
The new hospital comes amid a critical shortage of veterinary care nationwide. Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, more than 11 million households have reportedly adopted new pets.
While specialty services like internal medicine, cardiology, surgery, oncology, and more are commonplace in human medicine, demand for specialty services in veterinary medicine has become increasingly popular.
According to the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, 1-in-10 dogs presenting to primary care veterinary clinics have heart disease, while the American Veterinary Medical Association estimates that half of the dogs over the age of 10 will develop some form of cancer.
“There’s no doubt that specialty and emergency care is needed, and we’re eager to fill the much-needed demand here and look forward to serving the pets and pet parents of Austin and the surrounding community,” said Stephen Hadley, DVM, and CEO of Pathway Vet Alliance. “Additionally, we’re grateful to be able to create more than 40 jobs here in the Austin area, when unemployment is still such a major issue plaguing so many Americans.”
In anticipation of the January opening, Pet Specialists of Austin is hosting a virtual job fair in search of emergency veterinary technicians, oncology veterinary technicians, surgical and anesthesia veterinary technicians, and client care coordinators on Dec. 9 from 4-6 p.m. For more information, please visit https://app.brazenconnect.com/a/pathway-vets/e/pPnVr.
